On the 24th & 25th of November of 2023, Club 2000 Mission International held its inaugural National Summit in Kampala, Uganda. We gathered at the Passover Harvest Church in Bukoto Mulimira Zone, to fellowship, pray, and learn from various anointed men of God and thought leaders from Uganda and other parts of the world.
The Convener, Dr Austin Adesola was happy to return to Uganda again in 2023 after five years of being away. With his 15 years of experience in Uganda as a missionary, he is familiar with the unique problems and challenges that have affected the church in Uganda, the growth of Christianity, and their approach to missions.
The central theme of his sessions was the importance of Christian discipleship and the need for Christians to live out the sanctification they have received from the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus. He also spent time reminding believers and fellow ministers of the return of Christ, emphasizing that He (Christ) is the one we should be serving and not any selfish interests.
Rev. Canon Ebong is a respected leader in the Christian community in Uganda. Having served as the Vice Chairman of the Evangelical Fellowship of Uganda and as a former Director of Missions and Evangelism of the Church, Uganda; he had much to say about the importance of Africans taking their place on the global stage regarding missionary endeavors. He spoke about the moral decadence sweeping across the world today that has decimated most of Western society and the importance of Africans being discerning of the knowledge we absorb. He also reiterated some of Dr Austin Adesola’s points, challenging those gathered to be a beacon of righteousness and holiness.
Dr Calvin Kim, the Founder and Director of the African Initiatives for Mission, Education & Development is a South Korean missionary who has served in Uganda for over a decade. His sessions steered the Ugandan population towards development and progress through Godly principles. He drew some parallels between the development of Africa and Asia, paying particular attention to South Korea and Uganda. At the heart of his message, he emphasized: not forgetting God in the days of plenty.
The Conference host, Bishop Herman Sentamu, the presiding Bishop of the Harvest Churches in Uganda – whose headquarters is where the conference was held – spoke about the need for Christians to develop an Entrepreneurial Spirit. He highlighted poverty as a primary limiter to the spread of the Gospel in the nation while correcting wrong teachings surrounding the place of Christians in business that have been damaging to the church.
As a follow-up to this theme, with a focus on the youth population, Pastor Billy Adesola, spoke about some practical skills and knowledge areas that cannot be ignored in this digital age. He paid particular attention to Agricultural Entrepreneurship and the opportunities for digitization and technical support in the industry that will benefit the youth. He also shared the importance of leveraging IT and gave examples of current trends and opportunities in these spaces.
For the two days, the conference was well attended with a population of 150 on average. Guests were also treated to lunch for the two days and the music was handled by Infusion Worship, a music group based in Kampala, Uganda. On the final day, we concluded with prayers and an impartation session by Dr Austin Adesola. The meeting ended with a statement of commitment from the convener towards the missionary work in Uganda and a promise to return soon.
